My Summer 2008
[] August 10, 2008

Hey guys, time to update you on my summer shenanigans!

7 YEAR ANNIVERSARY - From my last blog, I left off the day before my anniversary. So Dave and I celebrated our 7 years on June 20th. It was quite romantic. After we parked the car, we walked through a tunnel to get up to ground level. David ran head of me to the top of the stairs at the end. He was professing his love for me really loud and it echoed. It was sooo sweet but I swear my cheeks were burning so much, I was delightfully mortified and giggling like a school girl. The we had dinner up on the CN Tower! A table by the window, it was beautiful. It had just stopped raining in Toronto so the clouds were floating away and the sun was setting~

SUMMERLICIOUS - My friends and I ate at Flow for Summerlicious this year. The food was alright and the restaurant was pretty, but there was no where to take a decent photo. We had to take it out front and that's all the space there was! Later that night, I changed quickly in the car as we drove to the club. We were dancing in a circle late that night when some random guy drunkenly pushed through us and threw me off my balance. I stepped back a bit and shoved him right back. He turned around to stare me down, but without hesitation, David stepped from behind me to intervene. The guy (who was looking down at me) looked up and saw David. I couldn't hear anything, I was gripping onto Dave's shirt from behind, hoping nothing would happen. I think a few tense words were exchanged, but in the end that guy backed down and left. It was a fun but tiring night, we left soon after.

ADOPTION - During the Toronto Humane Society adoption blitz, I wanted to go and see what kittens they had. Pico was so lonely lately, and because she's so maternal, I wanted to give her a baby brother. They were all so cute, but a little girl kitten (so small!) caught my eye. I filled out the necessary forms and took a number to wait. For three hours, I had racked my mind for a name and finally settled on Maddie. But my heart was broken when I overheard that the family right before me had adopted the kitten. I was miserable the rest of the day. =(

COTTAGE @ WASAGA - Late July, around 20 of my friends (including myself and Dave) headed up to Wasaga for Superfunbeachtime! Dave had to work late, so him and I went up a day later in the middle of the night. We didn't get to the cottage until around 5am. We went to the beach and of course, all our white guys got burnt like lobster haha. In the evening, my best girlfriends and I went to the private beach for a "girls photoshoot", girl talk, swim and bonding time! The last day there, we went SHOPPING on the boardwalk. It was definately the best weekend of this year so far!

ADOPTION - The same weekend we got back from Wasaga, Dave and I decided to head down to the Toronto Humane Society again. We saw an ADORABLE brown tabby and instantly fell in love. But it was a tough fight. EIGHT other families were interested in this kitten. It was a good thing I had decided to fill out the application BEFORE going to THS. All we did was take a number and wait. And wait we did, for 3 hours, very anxiously. We noticed a girl who had taken the tabby's information clipboard and hoarded it to herself. Finally an adoption agent headed towards us. But the girl stepped in to ask him to help her with the kitten. My heart jumped to my throat, there was no way I was going to lose this kitten to someone. I couldn't take it. I leaped out of my seat, "I'm sorry, I've taken a number and waited long before her." The agent nodded "One sec, miss." He privately spoke to the lady and told her to take a number and fill out a form. The agent walked off with the kitten's clipboard. I sat there, holding Dave's hand tightly, all the while getting LOTS of cut-eye from that girl. Finally another agent came to help us. And in the end, WE GOT IT!! They took the kitten to get some vaccinations while we were directed to wait in the lobby. As we left, David held the door for me and I looked over at "That Girl" and gave her a big fuck you grin. =3

HARLEY - I held the 5 month old kitten in my arms for the car ride home. He was SO affectionate and cute. He follows you wherever you walk and ALWAYS loves to sit in laps and be petted. But for the life of us, we couldn't think or and agree on a name. We stopped at a PetSmart to pick up some kitty things and David picked up a Harley-Davidson collar. I looked at the kitten. It was PERFECT. "Harley." I said out loud, testing it. I nodded, liking the name and making a pun. "Get it? He's Harley, David's SON" David chuckled and rolled his eyes but I could tell he liked the name too. Our little boy, Harley. The first two days were WONDERFUL. But then Harley got lethargic and anorexic (not eating), he threw up a few times and started to limp. I became VERY concerned and rushed him straight to the vet. The vet speculated that since he was given all the vaccinations at once, it overloaded his small body and immune system. Basically the vaccination against CALICIVIRUS actually caused it. Calicivirus is a common disease in kittens/cats that come home from adoption centers. I honestly was terrified when the vet said to me "There is a recent fatal strand of the virus going around, so I just want to prepare you for the worst." So since July 30th, the vet had me quarantine the kitten away from Pico. He is not to mingle with another cat until three days AFTER he gets better. And if all goes well, that will be next Friday. The poor thing will be isolated for closed to two and half weeks! Even now he CRAVES attention, mewing, whining and crying all the while sneezing (every 5 minutes seriously!), oozing mucus, ran a HIGH fever, muscle aches and pains (that caused the limping), lethargic, wasn't eating, ulcers on his tongue. I almost cried. Although the vet bills are STEEP, at least I'm covered partially by the 6 weeks trial insurance. I KNOW for a fact if that girl from the humane society had successfully adopted Harley, he would NOT be getting the medical attention he needs. He seems to be doing better on his meds, but I still have to wipe his face every hour or so to clean the mucus CAKING on his face. He doesn't eat much, but he drinks a lot of water, which is good since it will help him flush his system. Wish him luck and a speedy recovery! Pico, I think was beginning to get attached to him before I had to quarantine him. =(

Updates and Anniversaries!!
[] June 19, 2008

I haven't died since the last time I've blogged about the crappy direction my life was turning. However, things have started to brighten up. After being rejected by all university programs I applied to, one of them called me back and wanted me. =) So now Yvonne has been accepted into the Teacher Education program at York!! Wheee!!!

Quite a bit has happened in the last few weeks and I'm going to give a briefing about them:

- DIGITAL: My computer had a meltdown. I managed to get it backed up and David gave me his computer. *heart*
- MOTHER'S DAY: Took my mom for a surprise dinner at the CN Tower. She LOVED it, though the food was mediocre, the view was great! For once, I got her a Mother's Day present she didn't critisize lol.
- PAINTBALL: David took my paintball virginity. I played my first game. It was fun, I was sore for a week.
- ANIME CONVENTION: Was not as active this year in cosplaying, we are much more relaxed. However when we went clubbing, shit went down. Some guy was trying to hit on and pick up one of my girlfriends who didn't want the attention. My guy friend defended her and told the guy to back off. The guy came back with a bunch of his punk kid friends and attacked. Some of my friends (including girlfriend) was hurt. I couldn't do much but I managed to kick a guy in the neck with my stiletto. Those guys disappeared into the crowd, only one was caught, but they let him go without questioning. What is wrong with people?
- JON: Spent some quality time with my brother! Took him out for dessert at Demetres.
- LUMINATEAU: Went downtown with my girlfriends to see the Luminateau festival. Watched a fire show, enjoyed a boat ride, walked into the Distillery District, had some ice cream and some Caribbean cuisine.
- MOUSE: I found a dying mouse and put him in a safe place down the street, covered him with a BIG dandelion leaf so he can die peacefully. Lol. I won't him to live and infest my house but I don't want him to die being torn to shreds by a cat or anything either...
- GREY'S ANATOMY: Started to watch the first few episodes. Loving it!
- MOVIES: Saw Sex and the City (LOVED LOVED LOVED IT), Indiana Jones (meh), Don't Mess With the Zohan (meh), Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay (Funny!), Chronicals of Narnia (meh), Iron Man (can't wait for the sequal!), The Forbidden Kingdom (cool Jet Li, Jackie Chan)

That's basically my last month in a nutshell. I also got into a little fight with David last weekend. I refused to talk to him, but then he bought me an apology Gerber Daisy (a nice peach one!) and a pair of SEXY shoes. =) Which, of course, made up for it! Pictures of updates below!!
